A
small company approached Innoquest
wishing to design and market a new
golf putter that electronically sensed
the position of the ball relative to
the club head. The client had one prototype
unit but it did not track the ball’s
position back further than one inch
from the head.
The client also needed the design
improved so that the position of the
ball relative to the head would be
frozen at the moment of impact. This
would allow the user to see, after
the swing, if the club head was aligned
properly at the moment of impact.
The client needed the design changes
made and 6 prototypes delivered in
6 weeks for an upcoming trade show.
Innoquest quickly developed a novel,
low cost impact sensor and completely
redesigned the electronic circuit to
use a microcontroller.
The design work of Innoquest was so
novel that a patent was issued covering
many of the design enhancements. The
6 prototypes were successfully created
and used for demonstration at the trade
show by the client.
Based on trade show response, our
client decided to pursue mass production
and worked with a large golf club manufacturer
to develop the production design. |
